James Cameron - Auteur

Week 3 - Exploring Auteur Theory

James Cameron

James Cameron was born in Canada and moved to united states in 1971, he is the director for Titanic one off the most historical movies of all time and his other most popular is Avatar.

Style, cinematography, editing technique, mise on scene and use of sound

The unique style of James Cameron is that he taught his self about special effects, he made notes and found himself how to use them in a film. In his movies he uses establishing shots a lot in Titanic for example when the ship sunk it was incredible to watch it they way the audience saw it. In Titanic he used the true story but he turned into a love story between high class and lower class to make the audience feel more affection for the story. With Avatar he uses a love story again but this is what makes James so unique, the shots he uses are long shots to shows you the atmosphere. Which is clear because most directors dont do that.

The animation used in Avatar is so clear as you can see all the detail put in to the shot and you can also see how much effort it would take. As you can see in the bottom picture how the texture off the picture is.
Themes and Issues
His genre when making movie is the main romance, in titanic with Rose and Jack also the issue in this story is the ship sinking. Again in Avatar with Aang and Katara.

Level of input
He directed 20 movies 3 to be annouced, he has writen 22 titles like strange days which is crime and action, he does most of his movies himself as he was self tought.

InfluencesFor Titanic it was the history of the ship sinking, I think the young people who are looking to work in special effects will look at James Cameron and take some of his experience on board.
